Ok this shows how bored i am. Also I wanted to test out some methods for cutting metal. First I tried a dremel but it was just all over the place. How do you keep that thing in one line? So I moved on to using a handheld jig saw. It worked great when I had the space bit it was a bit of a pain in the tight spaces. Also I forgot to tape the top side to it got all scratched up, oh well it was a 5$ vcr from a friend, plus ill know for next time. I took a dremel to it after that with a sanding bit to eaven it out then I took an eletric sander to it. Good learning experience. Any of you with some tips for me? Here are the pics. Also where can you get some plexi or what ever you use to window it? Also what do you use to apply it. Ive heard of velcro and some rivits.

I use this cool double sided clear Scotch mounting tape.
as far as getting the plexi...you can usually find it at any hardware store. I get mine at the local Ace.

I used some double sided foam sticky tape so that the glass was raised slightly from the case and I put some chrome edging around the hole to finish it off so there were no bad edges and it all fitted snugly together, looks a bit of a mess inside but great from the outside where it counts.

Looks nice. I used double sided tape to hold my plexi on, and i got it from home depot.

Nice! get some plexi in there, take pictures of applying it, then take some pictures of the final product and do a write up (step by step) and we can post it on the main page, it can be the first hardware zone article. looks nice, cant wait to see the finished product. pretty creative idea...

I want the one with the built in coffee machine.
AMG, we going to get a pick of the final product? And are you going to throw in twin 120mm fans for the sake of overkill or what?

I've seen people use velcro to mount their windows also. That way if you ever need to take it out you can easily.

;-/ did ya see the first post? :P
Kirk: I would actually but I cant find any power places inside. If u know what they might look like Id give it a whirl.
Yea I knew bout the velcro but the thing it it raises the plexi so its not flush and there isnt much working room in there.

Whats wrong with a little VCR modding? Its perfectly normal. Plus I was trying out my technique, I mean you need some place to start and I would prefer not a 100$ case but rather a 5 dolla vcr. Btw does anyone know where I could attach a power source ie: cathode?

I was on another forum where they had the same link to the watercooled keyboard. They were talking about how they overclocked it to and were getting like 150 WPM with it water cooled. . Now just to get the plexi and to hook up the cathode.

there should be a stepdown transformer, and it should drop voltage from 120 mains (usa) to 12-24 volts ac. then put a rectifier on the output wires and hook up teh cathode.

Hmm well im not really sure what the stepdown transmografier looks like here is a quick pic of the power supply like thing. You can see it in the second pic. Also whats a rectifier and where can i get one (radio shak I suppose)?

as far as a rectifier, you can buy one, or build a crappy one if you know what you're doing (uses 4 diodes in a diamond like setup -- pics to come)

Would this be a stepdown transformer? ALso I might go out tonight and get some parts like primer and some black paint so I might make a paint scheme.

hm, its hard to tell... I would know for sure if i saw everything in the vcr. But, tell ya what, i have an old broken vcr, and ill take it apart, and take a pic of the transformer (assuming that it uses one, its from the early-80's, they didnt use stepdowns so much back then)

New Hypothesis : There is a Penny Arcade that corresponds to any statement you can think of.
Ex.
Me: "I just sat on a bucket full of oranges"
Friend: "Oh yah I read a Penny Arcade about that..."

Lag stated awhile back that there is a PA strip for anything, which has been further proven by the fact that silly people such as myself keep posting PA strips that apply to the topic at hand. This theory, ironically, kills itself, since there isnt a PA strip about there being a PA strip for any topic.
now, *whip crack*, mod that VCR dammit! I wont put my pants back on until you do!
