Well, I'm finally going to ask:
Has anyone heard about any issues with either ATI Radeon video cards or Cretive Labs sound cards and CS?
(ATI Radeon 8500 128mb / Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 / Windows 2000)

I have upgraded all the drivers to the latest versions with no relief

It's pretty stable at 800x600, but anything higher than that it hangs within minutes.

I think it's probably the sound card since I don't remember having these issues on my old motherboard and that was the exact same board with on-board Yamaha sound.

The problem seems to happen even at 800x600 when there is a lot of voice chatter....

I'd really like to run higher than 800x600 since it looks like old atari  graphics on a 19" monitor....

Anyway, thanks for any input!

i have no idea. Im running a R9700 PRO, Creative SB Audigy Platinum, WinXP Pro, and i have no problems... have you tried a fresh install of your sound card? turned off all sound options besides the volume in HL? Maybe move the sound card to a different PCI slot, might have some kind of IRQ issue... not likely, but from what i know, sound blasters are picky little f*ckers that dont like working right... im on my second SB Audigy, sent the original back under warranty because it simply stopped working one day for no reason. tried to reinstall, and the drivers didnt recognize the card, but luckily i did get it replaced and its workign fine now (knock on wood)... There might be some kind of hardware conflict, try looking on ATI and Creatives sites for possible known issues...
