View Full Version : My Moniter

I just bought a Geforce 4 Ti4200. I hooked it up to my 17" KDS monitor and everything ran find. Well that night I had a Lan Party so I was playing a lot of games at high resolutions (above 1024x768). Well half way through I decide to see what my 3Dmarks score is. The first time it run good. 8500+ points stock. Then I keep playing with new drivers to see if I could get better scores. I tried the 29.80 drivers well half way through the moniter is dead. It won't turn on. I was wondering if it is possible that my Vid card overpowered my monitor and "killed" it. Does anyone else have any ideas.

Does it go into standby mode or does it not turn on at all?

When I press the On button the little light that tells you that the moniter is on just goes on and off. It sounds like the moniter tries to start up but then shuts down.

Can you see if the machine is posting at all?

I hope you had the safe resolution box checked in display properties. I killed an old 15incher running it at too high a res.

That's what I'm thinkin' happened. But the way he's describing it, it sounds like the entire thing is broken if he can't even see the POST info.

I did have that check. The monitor is old too so I think it was time for an upgrade anyways.

Probably did, monitors do bite the dust, but generally they have a good life span.

Well these days you can get a 19" Trinitron for like $150 so why not just trash the other one and get a new one.

Ah, I dunno, monitors to me are not an extremely significant part of life. The technology rarely changes, so it's not like I need to upgrade it, or flash it a new BIOS. A monitor is like a TV set, don't replace it until it breaks, or something really new and totally kick ass comes out.

Or if when you play games the snow on your monitor has a greenish tint instead of the light blue tint.
/me wants a new monitor.

Teh, shit happens I guess. Monitor's get old, but GENERALLY they have a good life span a couple years and the like. I've been using my Viewsonic A-70 (revision 2) for two years now and it hasn't failed me yet.

This monitor is like 6 years old so it is getting to the end of its lifespan.
