View Full Version : Weapons Of Mass Destruction

I'm getting really tired of hearing this hysterical shit coming from various world leaders and military spokepeople.

We are endlessly told by Bush and Blair et al, that Saddam Hussien possesses the capability to use weapons of mass destruction and that until we send in the troops we won't be able to sleep safely at night. Ironic, considering that someone like Bush should start complaining about despots using these so called 'weapons of mass destruction'. Erm I could be mistaken, but doesn't Bush have enough nuclear weapons to obliterate the entire known world? Doesn't Bush preside over a capabiltiy to manufacture chemical and biological weapons that has only been suspended? I'd love to see how helpful the US would be if Hans Blix and his weapons inspectors turned up at Los Alamos.

Saddam didn't deploy chemical or biological weapons, even when US troops were merely miles outside of Baghdad during Gulf War I. Iraq has no nuclear capabilities, and has no means to deliver a nuclear device bigger than a so called 'dirty bomb' device. Even if Iraq had some SCUDS left over, they have a range that limits any attacks to Israel at the most and thats for non-nuclear warheads.

So the question remains? Why the hysteria about Saddams 'weapons of mass destruction'?

BTW, a major scandal approx 15yrs ago in this country, was that a Sheffield based steel company was caught supplying Iraq with the parts required to construct a 'Supergun' that could have fired chemical shells for 100's of miles out of Iraq. German companies constructed the various military bunkers around Iraq and supplied the chemicals to make various gases. British comanies supplied the technology to manufacture them. Nice.

The reason everyone is after saddam is the fact that he doesn't want peace. It's arguable that the US wants peace, but we work with the UN (i think ;-/ ) where as saddam doesn't. Basically the reason we're worried about him is his connections to terrorists and the fact that he is simply a bad person. I know nothing about the US's weapons of mass destruction, but i doubt any president would use them... well, besides george that is ;)

Well ya gotta remember, although he's never used nuklear  stuff, he has used chemical before when he gassed the Kurds with vX and Seron gas. So imagine if he did that to Israel .

Bush would be insane to use any weapons of mass destruction; at best it'd be political suicide. Hussein's already proven that he's willing to, so I think the logic (whether one agrees with it or not) is, I suppose, that Iraq seems more irresponsible.

I agree. Unlike Hussein, Bush has an approval rating to worry about. Its gone down enough with him pusing for a war no one really wants, but if he were to use weapons of mass destruction for anything but a retaliation he would be lucky to not be in jail. impeachment would happen probably immediately... Hussien has nothing holding him back from using WOMD, he doesnt care about his people more or less the US, and hes simply crazy. Hes a dictator who would probably jump at the chance of world domination, or simply defeating anyone he considers an enemy, which is probably everyone.

Yeah but look at things. Out of all the countries in the world connected with terrorism and aggressive military posturing, Iraq must be pretty far down the list. No one has ever connected 911 with Saddam, and seemingly most Arabs merely ally with Iraq simply out of a dislike for the West. In the final analysis, Blair and Bush see Saddam as an easy target. Most of his massive tank army was obliterated in Gulf War I, his army is more or less reduced to a shadow of its former glory (mainly made up of conscripts), and there is a nonexistant airforce in Iraq. Like Bush says, they are gonna finish the job this time but only cos Bush Snr got scared of the news coverage of the first war and withdrew his troops. If Bush and Blair are so serious about this Axis Of Evil, then they have no choice but to prepare to invade North Korea. The Koreans have actively restarted their weapons grade plutonium processing plants and have ejected UN monitors but I don't see BUsh and Blair going anywhere near N. Korea cos they know it wouldnt be a CNN showcase like Iraq will be.

They want to make peace with N Korea cause they actaully see them as a threat. N Korea's connections, etc etc, could end up a world war three, whereas a war on IRAQ is good for show of power by the US and like you said, its an easy target...

Analysts think that North Korea are going to time a nuclear weapons test with the invasion of Iraq. The thinking being that America and the UK will be too busy with Saddam to do anything about it.

This is going to sound dumb in a way, but heres a thought! Why cant they just not have WOMD and no one attack anyone else?! what a novel f--king idea! Build some defenses and tighten border security if you're paranoid, but dont horde weapons that can and will cause the end of the world... In a way, i think we need to start making hippies the leaders of countries... the UN would be a big smoke-a-bowl contest...
