If I get that geforce 4 anytime in the near future I may have to purchase UT2k3 to play around with.

I just liked it when i played that game and when i first got my GF4 and turned everything up as high as it would go and it said "holy shit" or something along those lines when i accepted the changes. It made me feel better for spending the money on the graphics card.

personally I wouldnt get a G4 any time soon ... infact never. cause soon enough the Geforce FX (G5) will be out and ATi will have their updated 9700 to push the prices to teh bottom of the barrel.

So get one of the new Radeons ;). IMHO, if you get a GF4 "now" with the 9500/9700's out, you're just stupid. Even if you're an NVIDIA loyalist, the new cards by ATI smash any GeForce on the market. Plus NVIDIA's price makes it hard to compete with.

I'm not trying to be insulting if you've already made the purchase, but why buy an inferior card for more money ?

When you find me a 9500 for 118$ then I'll buy it, but until then...

Eyepoker if you wanna be that cheap and go ATI, get a 9000 Pro for only $129 @ the ATI online store.

Why would I get a 9000 when I can get a 4200 for 118$ The 9000 performs worse than the 8500... Besides I've seen it in the 80$ range.

What kind of crack have you been smoking? The 9000 Pro kicks the 8500's ass, it may be based on the same core but it packs a bigger punch than the 8500. As for the GF4, the R9000; even the R8500 are not meant to compete with GF4's. But like I said, if you don't plan to buy again for awhile get the 9500/9700 or wait for the FX.

Your call.

It all comes down to my lack of funds and I don't have 150$+ to spend.

Then go get the Hercules 9000 Pro with more beefed up specs ;). Here's how it broadens down. If you want to wait for the FX, wait for it. The FX will crush anything currently out there, period. If you don't want to wait, do no disgrace yourself and get something lower than a 9500 Pro.

The GF4's do not have DirectX 9, hell they can't do 16xAF/6xAA @ 1600x1200 without taking a crap; except for maybe the 4600, but even it gets spanked by the Pro. So just do what I did. I didn't want to pay $350+ for the 9700, simply because the 9500 in itself is a mini-9700 already. Take away it's clock lock and you have a 9700 (near pro) for half the price.

I don't plan on overclocking this one, nor do I care if I have near 9700 specs. The card owns, and when the FX comes out in a few months, I will replace it and build the P4 system I've been saving up for. My P4 will get the FX, my next best AMD box will get the 9500.

It all works out nicely ;).

I'm gettin the 8500 so I can save some money for future upgrading. I needs more ram, some new speakers, a new mouse, and a faster processor.

Ok, call me stupid :o. First you wanted a GeForce 4 that would have spanked the R8500. The 8500/9000's are not meant to compare with the GF4's. Right now gaming and GPU's are at the point where it's the GPU that is the bottleneck in most games not the CPU.

If you want to do an 8500/9000 then go for the GeForce 4 and save yourself some tech specs. If you want to go GF4 but have the cash go 9500 or higher. It really all depends on how long you're planning on having this card before making the "big decision" IMO.

I'd personally put the cash in the bank and start saving again, because right now an 8500 or even a GF4 would be a waste of money. That's just my two cents, take it as you will. But I bought a 9500 Pro and I love it, it's much better than the Ti 4400 I have at work and is alot nicer. Once again it depends on what you want, and how far you want to go with this machine.

I'd rather do a small upgrade now and be able to afford a large one later. I'm just lookin to be able to run my games a bit smoother. It's worth it to me to save almost 50$ and go with the 8500...

Ok, well I don't keep record of everyone but post up some prices and your full specs and we can look at it that way. In the end that's what I had to do, tear everything apart and decide what I "really" wanted to upgrade.

1.8 ghz, 256 mb pc2100 ddr, crappy intel mobo (soon to be Asus p4s333), geforce 2 gts. Got approx 130$ to work with and if I don't have to spend it all that's more I put in the bank for other uses such as college.

Those specs IMO are not that bad. I know everyone is off thinking it's "vital" to upgrade beyond two gigahertz, but it's not. I can see why you want to invest in more memory. I myself have the same amount and find it's inadequate especially with XP and UT2K3. But the GTS, is the thing you should really put your cash into.

Let's face it, the GF2s are a bit obsolete nowadays, sure a good deal of people are running with them. They're stable and they get the job done, just like the GF3s and 4s. But you need something to replace the two, badly.

My advice is go with the GF4 you picked out earlier or save up. I'm sure someone has a second opinion though, so might wanna wait ;).
