Worth the money?

I'm thinking of upgrading the following computer to an Athlon XP 1800.

tbird 750
192mb pc133
ecs k7s5a
prophet 4500
40.0gb 7200rpm maxtor HD
win xp pro

How much performance gain will I see with this upgrade? is it worth it?

I think you'd see a definite boost, it's a good gigahertz over your current processor. Might be time to change that Prophet too if you have the cash. I was a loyal fan of mine for two years, but when it stopped being able to play games at high detail without straining my box, I gave up with it.

all good, try getting more ram and better video, you should have more ram due to running XP and the prophets a little out of date..

that board supports DDR ram, right? i think my firned had that, im too lazy to actually look up the number, but i think im right, if not, yell at me or something :D...

If i am right, get some DDR, then upgrade the processor (Athlon XP 1600+ for $46@ newegg.com!), and then snag a Radeon 9500 PRO and you'll have a great rig!

Well, it's not like this is my main computer, so it's ok for when I have a LAN party and someone couldn't bring their computer. I haven't really run into games this computer won't run anywho. Even Morrowind runs at a steady 25-30 fps at 800x600. Maybe I will buy a stick of pc2100 for it tho.

hehe even a P4 3.06 with a radeon 9700 system runs Morrowind at those FPS ;)

You've gotta be kidding me. Morrowind is what almost a year old and gets that kind of FPS versus a game like 2K3 :o?!

Morrowind has always been a buggy bitchy game, all I was saying is that it is playable. What kind of fps do you guys see on your machines?
A well developed engine like the one in UT 2003 would probably run a lot better, but I don't have it to try it out.
