what the heck is prone spamming? what the heck is dolphin diving??does this mean the end of bunny hopping or they just cant shoot while doing it now? when is the patch comming out ??? lol inquireing minds wanna know !!!!

I think prone spamming is when people go from standing to prone over and over, making it harder to be hit.
Dolphin diving...don't know about that one. Hopefully it does disable shooting - people MIGHT stop doing it then (bunny hopping is annoying when used as a battle tactic, funny when used for nothing in particular).

Dolphin Diving is something near and dear to me. It's when you jump and go prone in the air so you land already prone. That's stupid...isn't not like you can run and dive in real life...booo on that
It's the knifers best friend :(
Not to mention it's good for reviving someone in the middle of a fire fight. That's the only thing I don't like about this patch so far.

Prone Spamming might be pushing the jump key while prone rapidily.
They are also taking hitpoints from aircraft and improving the missle lock The jet whores won't like it. The helos look like they will be more vunerable too. In addition to the above they are lowering the missles carried from 14 to 8 and reducing the range of the tv missle

I was just on the EA forums. They have a thread on the new patch. The first 1/2 dozen posts were screaming that the patch is going to kill BF2 if you eliminate bunny hopping They brought up that 90% of the CAL and TWL players are against it After the first six or so posts the rest were all pro patch.
Apparently all they do in CAL matches for BF2 is bunnyhop. OMG they're going to have to learn real world tactics lol

This came from BF2s It doesn't pertain so much to the new patch as it does Tournament Clans (ie CAL)
Karkand, USA.
To have your commander assets ripped out within the first minute of the round is annoying, but legit and perfectly acceptable, to then have a hummer full of the clan remount, and drive directly to the main base, set up, and wipe people out as they SPAWNED is just plain sad!
This "tournament playing" clan, as they so thankfully informed us, were "allowed to spawnrape and bunnyhop" as its written in the bible of "tournament" play... I let rip into these sad sods, to be greeted with the reply of "we are better than u, NoOb..!" etc etc. Im sure u have all been there. These type of people are, as far as i am concerned teh SCOURGE of online gaming, particularly re fps. Ive been playing online a long time, almost 15 years, and this type of "score at all costs" player, truely wreck the gaming experience... they remove the sense of immersion, the feeling of team play, and the element of competition. I dunno if this forum permits expletives, but those f*cksticks should have their accounts crippled.
rant over.
feel free to blog about this type of cretin here.

Community Update 1/11/06
Hello everyone and a Happy New Year to all of you.
Today we have some big announcements that we’re excited to share with you! First of all, news about 2 new booster packs that will expand the battlefields of Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2: Euro Force and Battlefield 2: Armored Fury.
Euro Force will be released on February 8th and sees the introduction of the all-new European Army in 3 new maps. Each Euro soldier will come equipped with a new primary weapon, from the FNP90 to the Benelli Tactical Shotgun. There will also be 4 new vehicles, including the (in)famous Eurofighter. The 3 maps are “Operation Smoke Screen”, “The Great Wall of China” and “Taraba Quarry”.
Armored Fury will be released on March 28th and the focus is on large mechanized battles, harking back to the El Alamein style maps on BF1942. There will be 3 new maps – “Midnight Sun”, “Operation Harvest” and “Operation Road Rage” – but also 2 new vehicle classes. Attack Jets and Recon Helicopters, which can spot nearby enemy units, will make their debut.
Both packs will be available exclusively online at www.downloader.ea.com at $9.99 each (€9.99 in Europe and £5.99 in the UK).
As well as these booster packs, we are of course still utterly devoted to providing updates to Battlefield 2. We can’t say it enough; thank you all for your support and dedication! Update 1.2 is currently undergoing public beta testing and will be released very soon. As with the first list, this second list includes confirmed fixes only:
* Helicopter now carry 8 missiles rather than 14
* TV-Guided missile now have a shorter range
* Hit points on all air vehicles has been reduced
* AA missile lock has been improved
* Support kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy
* Sniper kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy
* Anti-Tank kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy
* "Dolphin Diving" is no longer possible
* Players can no longer jump and shoot at the same time
* "Prone Spamming" is now fixed
* "Sprint exploit" is now fixed
* The Sa80 weapon has been improved
* The G3A3 weapon has been improved
* Reload while sprinting has been enabled
* Chinese and MEC APCs can now shoot through penetrable materials
* Damage decreased for the M134
* Medic defibrillator paddles have been adjusted. They now reload while not in use.
* Server search filters now work properly
* All mines (Claymore, Anti-vehicle, C4) can now be picked up by the same class that dropped it by using the “G” key.
* Mines can no longer be destroyed with other explosives
* Flash bang effect radius decreased
* Added unlocks for Sniper and AT kits
* Fixed a bug in terrain rendering with night vision, whereby terrain was still dark in dark areas.
* Fixed a bug whereby mods that are not bf2 or not xpack permutate shaders every time a level is loaded.
* Fixed a bug whereby non-xpack mods cannot use xpack shaders.
* Fixed bug in TV guided missiles of Havoc helicopter
* Bug in MP7 fire rate fixed. Ammo count increased and mag count and damage decreased
* APC Update – “Chinese and MEC APCs can now shoot through penetrable materials”. This fix was a miscommunication to the patch team. Chinese and MEC APC’s have been reverted and the LAV25 now no longer shoots through penetrable materials.
* Vehicles no longer disappear when viewed from some vehicles with a HUD (e.g. Tanks).
* Performance gain found in static mesh rendering.
* Detonation radius from grenade launcher explosions has been reduced.
* Grenade launcher projectiles now have a minimum time before arming.
As always, thanks for your support and keep talking – we’re listening.
Your friends at EA and DICE
The grenade launchers won't be able to be used in short range (min distance before arming) and Damage radius is reduced This is from EA's BF2 page

hmm Sounds like you may be able to shoot down the UAV now like in real life
Community Update - 1/18/06
Listen up Soldiers!
By now, you have all seen the list of fixes in the next update (1.2). We are still trying to nail down a few final items and put the final touches in place.
Here's a list of additional items to look for in version 1.2:
* UAVs are now visible in the world so if you are being scanned, you can know about it and take action against it.
* Rank progression is no longer limited to the enlisted ranks. All officer ranks are now available.
* Bug that allowed players in vehicles to contest a flag from outside the flag radius is now fixed.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to clarify some confusion stemming from our updates.
The first item is on the topic of grenades. Players will still be able to toss grenades while jumping. Although the ability to fire while jumping has been removed, players will still be able to initiate a grenade toss prior to jumping and follow through with the toss, thereby gaining themselves some extra distance. We understand that there will be some adjustment in tactics required when the patch comes out but we are confident that the community will quickly come to grips with the new tactics.
The second item is on the topic of the booster packs. We have not created the maps as a separate expansion pack requiring a separate server. The booster packs will increase the content of the base game and thereby may be run on a server in regular rotation with the original maps.
Hope that clears up some of questions you’ve all been asking.

I wonder if this means more unlocks and if they are going to lower the bar again for the higher ranks like they did in the previous patch
Veritas

I think they may be adding new ranks...not sure what they're going to do about the current ones.
Unlocks would be good...better if I could kill with anything besides a tank though

EA has presented more information about the patch and the delay....
"Hello everyone.
As I pretty much expected, there is some last minute news to pass along. There’s some good and some not so good news but, hopefully, the good outweighs the not so good.
First, I’ll start with the bad news to get it out of the way. We have held onto the 1.2 patch a little longer than we had initially planned. We really felt that it was important to delay the patch and take care of some of the issues that have had the community concerned. This means that it will be released sometime in the next two or three weeks. This, unfortunately, means that the Euro Force Booster Pack will be delayed as well since it relies on the patch. Look for Euro Force to be released in the latter half of February now.
Also, another bit of bad news is that the new feature that allows player to pick up deployed mines with the G key is being held back. In the end, we felt it just wasn’t complete enough for public consumption. We at DICE apologize to all of you who were eagerly awaiting this feature.
I hope that the reasons for the delays are seen as positive by you, the community, and therefore I list these reasons as the good news portion of this update.
The following issues were addressed:
Being able to pass through walls using a spinning tank turret has been fixed. It has also been addressed on all rotating vehicle positions just to be safe.
The disappearance of tank projectiles and grenade launcher projectiles during online play has been improved and should occur less frequently
The distance for throwing hand grenades, ammo packs, and health packs has been increased.
And finally…
The Red/Blue nametag bug has been addressed
Regarding the last point, what we have done is make the code more secure to try and prevent any cases where this bug may occur. Since the fix has been in place, we have had no reproduction of the bug in testing.
We’re excited about being able to release 1.2 very soon and hope you all are too."
All the best,
AJ Marini

It seems everyone is getting unlocks. It might be prudent to choose them latter. I got two unlocks also even though at Sargent Major I already have all availible unlocks. My choices were undefined so I suspect that the new patch is close to being released and they are adjusting the software in a master computer to take into account the new unlocks So you might want to wait till the patch so you have the most choices allowed for your rank The two new unlocks will be AT and Sniper. I think the new sniper is a British sniper rifle that resembles the AWP Another rumor is that the new AT unlock is the P90

This confirms that its because of the upcoming patch Just found this Its a EA emplyee's post
We have a small heads up announcement regarding the next couple of weeks in BF2. Things are rolling along for the patch and the booster pack, and as expected you'll likely see them later this month. The patch will come first, and be well in place in time for the first Booster. That said, we want to inform you of a small oddity you may see in-game while we get the various aspects coordinated.
Short explanation: At some point in the next couple of weeks, you will see an empty in-game window pop-up, just like you received an award. This is just GameSpy detecting now that when the patch comes out you will get another weapon unlock. You should only ever see it once or twice, depending on how high your rank and how many unlocks you’ll have coming. Once the patch is out, your weapon unlock will be available in the BFHQ tab and you can make your choice.
Long Explanation: The next patch is going to give many players another weapon unlock at their current rank. In order to get the best testing results we are having GameSpy configure up the weapon unlocks now on their end. This allows us to test them in a true environment, which is rather effective. The side effect of this is that when this is first in place you are likely to see an empty placeholder message. It will look just like you received an award and will appear once for each unlock you’ve earned. This message would be telling you that you have received another weapon unlock, but we haven't patched the weapons in yet. So you will see this placeholder message which is harmless. When the patch is in place though, the stats system will think you already got your notification in- game. So you will want to hit the BFHQ tab and unlock your free weapon.
Thank you everyone for your attention, and we hope you all enjoy the upcoming new content! Game on.

Just to let you know that I spotted a fake Community Upate refering to the 1.2 patch. It is on the bf2s forum. It says that instead of reducing the effects of the grenade launcher they will be increasing them. It is a shot of a DICE web page I went up on the real DICE web page and found that they had photoshopped the page and edited it The real DICE web page just describes the game. DICE does not due community updates CU's are done on EA sites not DICE. Others have come to the same conclusion that I have. The guy who did this didn't post the link to the page instead he posted a screen shot So if you see it somewhere else don't worry it's a fake

I found this in the EA BF2 forum. It mentions it is in the booster pack but I suspect that it will be in the patch. Looks like my new rank will be 2nd or 1st LT depending when it goes into effect The enlisted ranks will have to be lowered too since right now the requirement for Sgt Major is 50K and 2nd LT 200,000
The new ranks from the booster pack will be as follows:
50 000 Global points = 2nd Lt.
75 000 Global points = 1st Lt.
90 000 Global points = Captain
115 000 Global points = Major
125 000 Global points = Lt. Colonel
150 000 Global points = Colonel
180 000 Global points = Brigadier General
200 000 Global points = Major General
The proof lies here: http: //www.totalbf2. com/forums/showthread. php? t=55200

Ok Bf2s has updated the requirements for the ranks in the UBAR section. Nothing changed for Sargent Major and below Sargent Major is still 50,000 pts
2nd LT is 60K, 1st LT is 75K(I'm at 72K), Capt is 90K, Maj is 115K, LT Col is 125k, Col is 180K. We noted last night that the leading players at300K+ were all Colonels This because at the general levels you need to have expert level badges and attain the rank below. So for Big Gen you need theall the vehicle badges to be expert plus be a colonel, for Maj General you must attain Brig Gen and have all your combat and Kit badges plus what you needed for big general to be expert

Community Update - 2/20/06
Listen up Troops,
Although patch 1.2 included several fixes that we know were eagerly awaited, it unfortunately introduced some new issues. These are being addressed immediately and we are working around the clock to resolve those. Patch 1.21 (coming soon) will be tested in a limited beta with select Battlefield community members starting as early as this week. We’re doing this to ensure a clean release of 1.21. In addition, we have decided to postpone the Euro Force Booster Pack until sometime after the release of the updated 1.21 patch.
Stick to this web space for additional information soon.
On a more pleasant note, Battlefield 2 hit somewhat of a milestone last night with over 52,000 simultaneous players. This is the highest number of players we’ve seen at one time for Battlefield 2 and almost 4 times more than the peak number of Battlefield 1942.
Thanks in advance for your patience.

Well I have found in the new patch, That it seams like their is a [???M] marker for the center of the map or something that doesnt exist, and it is in red on my screen. I went to one of them and I was standing in middle of the map or thought so. As well as their is still a tag problem, like scoping over someone, it takes longer to find out who your aiming at, wether be red or blue. I also find that some Blue name tags are missing so I have been punished for TK's, Hopefully they fix it soon, But not like the guys that punish you for throwing a nade in some where then they run for the nade you just threw.

to fix the new problems (or maybe just some of the old ones)...
Either way I like it more than 1.12...

Community Update - 2/21/06
Good day soldiers, We want to let you know that we have been making great progress on patch 1.21 and are happy to share with you some of the issues that are being addressed. The patch will be tested in a limited beta starting the end of this week. We're working around the cock to minimize your wait on the release of 1.21 but at the same time want to make sure that the patch is thoroughly tested before it goes out officially.
Below is a list of the current confirmed fixes
* Crash bug when using Hummer with TOW in the Special Forces expansion pack has been fixed
* Screen capture is now working
* Performance issues with certain ATI cards has been addressed
* Server browser can now filter by map name
* Claymores - the number that can be dropped at any one time has been reduced to 2
Once again thank you for your patience and see you all on the Battlefield!

Um why didnt you just take the small increment patch at 37 MB you already had patched up to the 1.2 you just need to go to the 1.21 so the small 37mb wouldnt have taken as long, Hehehehe

Euro Force and EA downloader
Early feedback for the Battlefield 2 Euro Force booster pack has been very positive. Our community digs the new Challenger 2, the Tiger HAP and the early favored map seems to be Operation Smoke Screen. We appreciate all the positive feedback you guys have been sending us and are also looking at the negative feedback as a way to resolve issues and as a way to provide better content in the future.
Speaking of negative feedback, we are aware that a small number of people are experiencing issues with the EA downloader. With that, and because we value your loyalty, we are investigating every customer service ticket we get. Here are some of the issues at hand.
ISSUE: Customers attempting to adjust their GameSpy ID names more than 3 times and then having to wait a week to change it again due to security concerns.
RESOLVE: You can change your GameSpy nickname up to 3 times per week. Do this by opening the downloader. You will see a text link on the Euro Force image. Alternately, you can go to ea.com and My Account and edit the info there.
NOTE: This is temporarily being change to 10 times to accommodate the issues at hand.
Complete FAQ can be found here.
ISSUE: Customers that can not use their EAD to connect to download or login.
RESOLVE: The inability to connect to the EA downloader is usually a blockage of data from one machine to another. When troubleshooting online connections you should keep in mind that you are not only dealing with your computer, but also the computer you are connecting to. Also be aware that every other computer your signal passes through can affect this connection.
Complete FAQ can be found here.
ISSUE: ActiveX / IE 7. IE7 is not final, and is not a supported browser. Revert to IE6 and set security / privacy / activex settings to default. While it would certainly be better if we were not dependant on any third party software, we have to recognize that IE7 is not final.
Complete FAQ can be found here.
ISSUE: 7049:0 error – We are aware of this issue and are currently investigating it. Once we know how to resolve it we will update you.
There are other various issue that we’re looking into and will update everyone in the community as we find solutions. For those of you playing Euro Force, keep up the good fight. For those who are having issues getting it to run, keep your chin up. We hope to have most of the issues solved quickly.

Patch 1.3 also lowers the requirements for badges/medals/ribbons
'm going to create a new thread for this, and sticky it for the time being. When Chuy gets the time to update UBAR, I'll remove the sticky. I don't want this to get buried in the other thread.
I've confirmed all of the findings that were posted in this thread. I've added other stuff at the bottom of this post. Enjoy!

Found this today on the FAF web page it looks like a community update
Greetings,
We recognize that this has been a very trying time for everyone who enjoys Battlefield 2 and are putting forth every effort to improve upon the issues that are causing some players frustration. The DICE team has been reviewing player feedback gathered from forums, email, and the ranker server providers in an effort to provide the best possible step forward from 1.3. While this work has been highly focused on bug fixing the team has also managed to put some work towards new content.
Some groups have noticed the testing of a new map ?Road to Jalalabad? being run on our test servers. This map will be included in our next patch release and is not part of a new booster pack. Some of the items on the change list for this next step are:
Reversion: Allowing unlocks on unranked servers
Fix/Reversion: We fixed the issue preventing mod teams from running multiple game modes in one map list.
Tuning: We have lowered the number of players needed to start a ranked game.
Tuning: We have made some modifications to the vehicle drop feature introduced in 1.3. These changes should reduce the overall impact of "cartillery" on game play.
Crash Fix: We have located and fixed a crash connected to 1.3.
These are only a small portion of the fixes being worked on for our next step. We would also like to announce that we will be holding an Open Beta in early July for this next patch. We will have public servers hosted, Beta files available on mirror sites, and specific threads for feedback during this Beta period hosted on the EA forums.
As always keep your eyes on this space for all the latest Battlefield News.
