i am building a comp (*weeee*) and my os choices are win98se or win2k pro........ i have both full install disks, and i want to know which is better game, network, stablitally, and other wise......... ill probably go with win2k anyway, but thought i'd ask.....

heres some somp specs:

Aopen AK75 mobo
256mb DDR PC2700 ram
AthlonXP 1800+
GF4 Ti4200 64mb
40gb 7200rpm HDD
ANTEC SX1035B Case (black)

I've always heard that AMD, AGP, and Windows 2000 equal disaster. I think there's a patch out there or two in the latest SPs. 98SE is good if you like old old games, but other than that its crap. If you have to have 9X use a dualboot.

I reccomend 2k. Do a dual boot if you like to play older dos based games.

well, the only dos game ill probably play is Duke3d, doom, doomII, and quake....... i play some of the classics sometimes too (duke 1 & 2, and some other apogee stuff) so, ok ill do win2k


yippie, my moniter is here (MAG Innovations 17inch "flat-tech" -- not truley flat)


tomorrow my other stuff should arrive..... im goin insane waiting!!!!

With that kind of stuff you can probably rummage around your local Computer Renassiance (used) store, and find a cheap 300-400mhz box. Generally that's a bit high for games like Duke I & Duke II, but it can be underclocked and will do well on those hardcore Duke 3D TCs with GLDuke. Be sure to sneak in a nice Voodoo too!

Ever since I got XP Pro I will never go back to Win 9X ever. It is just amazing the differences bewteen the Win 9X and NT kernel. My uptime is over a day :D.
