Warning. Lots of complaining below. BUt it is a good story, so read on.

okay so i had this brilliant idea about a month ago that i would trade lag a used p4 2.4Ghz that worked perfectly fine for his athlon xp 1600+, i know it makes me sound like an idiot, but at the time it sounded like a great idea because i had this p4 i wasnt using and didnt have a board for, so i wouldnt have to spend any extra money.

Well i send out the p4 and lag sends the XP. I get the XP 3 days later and replace my 1.2GHz athlon with it. nice. my 3dmark score went up 1000 points. I had some extra ram. Ram doesnt want to work with board for some reason. I flash bios. Board now dead.

Lag gets p4. p4 dirty, he cleans. Pin is bent somehow. He puts back. Pin falls out. Lag decides he's going to buy another p4 because he already bought a p4 board. Since lag has an epox 8kha+ that hes not using and i have a dead board, lag lets me buy it from him.

I pay, he sends. 3 days later ups hasnt reached my doorstep because my 9s look like 4s. I call ups and tell them i want to pick it up. They say ok and tell me where to go. I take 2 and 1/2 hours finding the place in the pouring rain. It should have taken no more than an hour. After 30 minuts of waiting around the ups guys find the package and i happily leave and go home.

I bring the board home and set everything up. When i power on the system it shows POST. I am happy because it reads all 1024MB of DDR ram and the XP1600+ i push the delete button to get into bios. nothing. i push again. nothing. after 10 minutes of troubleshooting i decide that the keyboard port isnt going to work. fine. i have a usb keyboard in the closet. on-board usb doesnt work. i plug in the optional usb thing and magically the keyboard works.

i start to install winxp pro, i repartition the main drive and format it to NTFS. winxp setup installs the 'needed files' and reboots. computer doesnt boot now.

the point of this story is... well... i am very saddend that after one month and roughly $90 my fucking computer doesnt work.

thanks for hearing me out... if you read that.

Ouch ! Did you guys ever consider maybe it was the way you packed it or the way the god blessed UPS transits things?

Surprisingly... I did a superb packing job... I made sure that sucker wasnt going anywhere no matter how hard it was tossed/kicked/thrown into sewer, and somehow a pin got bent on the way there...

As for Lag... he just put the cpu in a ziplock baggie.. not even antistatic and tossed it into a box with some packing peanuts... and the cpu works great.

Did you have the CPU in one of those funky little carriers NewEgg used to use by any chance? Those give pretty good protection.

nah... it was sandwiched between two cut pieces of that styrofoam that comes in motherboard boxes... inside an antistatic bag...
