Well while I was roaming the isles of Frys electronics, I found a product I had been looking at online for a while. I had not bought them because I just never got around to it. But here they sat on the shelves before my hands. I am talking about Vantec's Vibration Dampener Kits. These are complete kits that you attach to your fans and/or PSU to dampen the vibrations coming off of them. They are basically two silicon end caps for the edges of your fan/psu. I was skeptical of the kits worth while I shopped online, but when I looked at them in person I was pleasantly surprised to find that they included 12 silicon washers as well. They also come with 12 screws. They are made in different sizes to fit the consumers’ fans of 60mm, 80mm, 92mm and 120mm. The PSU kit is similar and contains a one size fits all silica gel end cap.

Seeing that my PSU is a Vantec PSU I was not worried that this product would not fit it. So I bought two 80mm kits (to fit 4 fans), and a PSU kit. I installed the fans accordingly had no problem with those. It was with the PSU that I had some problems. The silica gel pieces add a few millimeters to each of the PSUs sides, and that is a slight problem in my Coolermaster case. The PSU area in my case has very little room on the sides, maybe a millimeter. So I had to take out my pocket knife and cut them to fit. This was simple and easy to do.

It took me a while to complete the installation because of the tight allowances of the case, and other wiring jobs I was doing at the time. So needless to say I was a little worn by the time I got it the way I wanted it, and was still skeptical of how well it would help. In the end I was still pleasantly surprised. The noise coming from my PC was reduced a decent amount. Its just washers and end caps, but they do more than enough work for the 4 or 5 dollar price tags.

I've always wondered how well those work, and if they're worth the money. Thanks Tan, I might have to go pick some up in a week or two.
