I got a stick of 512mb of ram the other day and when I added it to the 256 i already had i was pretty excited. I turned on my machine, it went through BIOS showing that I now had 768mb, booted windows and 30 seconds later rebooted itself. I let it do its own thing to see if it would happen again and it sure did.

Im thinking that there is a BIOS problem so there's either a setting I need to change or I need to flash my bios. I dont want to flash it if I dont have to because last time I flashed someones bios the board said the bios was updadted the when I restarted it died!

Another note is that the new ram I have has 8 ram chips on each side, and on the ram I had before it had the chips every other spot, so on one side there are four chips and the other has 5.

I know that was long and thanks for any help you can give me.

It might sound like a silly question but are both of them the same type of RAM, meaning would they be compatible?

Yes, they are both PC2100

Try putting the larger module in the first slot.

Yeah, just swap them out ... try running w/ just the 512MB piece in...

Ive tried every configuration possible, except for putting them in backwards because that make your motherboard flash big bright orange lights, ive witnessed it.

Right now im using the 512 stick in the first slot
